WHO:

This workshop is designed for older adults who did not use the current technologies when growing up, and now wish to become proficient with using their personal laptop computer as an asset, rather than a frustrating liability.

 WHY:

Understanding how the Windows® Operating System works is integral to being able to use programs effectively, whether it be e-mail, word processing, working with photos of family and friends, 'surfing' the World Wide Web or playing Solitaire—all these programs run in Windows®. Money management, portfolio management, vacation planning, genealogy, digital photography, research, etc.—each are examples of  tasks that are performed by programs running in Windows®.

HOW:

This workshop will be conducted by a course facilitator who will present the material to small groups, assisted by a 'Wired Geezer Coach'.

A course textbook is NOT required (see below for information)

It has been found that skills learned during class time should have a good reference for the participant to use when they get back home, and this recommended text has proven useful for that purpose.

Page number references to the recommended texts will be available, so, it would be necessary to have those pages for reference.

At the end of this workshop you should be able to:

· Interact with your laptop using the keyboard and mouse (R & L Click) Demonstrate using “Solitaire”.

· Start a program, size & move a Window. Run multiple windows.

· Access, and use Flyout, Popup, Drop-down Menus; and Dialog Boxes.

· Organize Files and Folders.

· Open an Internet Browser program, Connect to the Wireless Internet, and access a Web site.

· Be comfortable with viewing, opening, closing, and bookmarking information- text, pictures, etc found on the World Wide Web.

· Demonstrate starting a Word Processing Program (WordPad), entering & formatting text, saving a file to flash drive/hard drive.

· Send an e-mail.

· Machine and security maintenance:
...Updates, and Backup, and Virus, Oh My!!
