Summer 2007

The Internet Browser: Can it unlock the doors to lifelong learning?
(Tuesday, 10-11 AM, July 10-August 14, 2007)

This workshop is designed to ‘teach you how to fish’ rather than give you a fish dinner. Knowing how to use a browser, search engine, indexes, databases, and libraries that open doors to learning that can last a lifetime. Search the National Library of Medicine, Library of Congress, GALILEO, Medicare… using Dogpile, Google, Ask, Answers, and a variety of other tools.
Bring your laptop, if you have one—we’re wireless! The Browser will be presented and used in searching online live on both the Windows XP platform as well as the new, exciting Windows Vista®. Come join us in this adventure in learning.

Summer 2006

Lifelong Learning: So what? Who cares?

Lifelong learning, whether formal or informal, is viewed by many as a major contributor to one’s quality of life. The phrase ‘you learn something new every day’ could not be more relevant than it is today. This course will explore the many facets of lifelong learning, particularly as it relates to learning activities of older adults, and will be conducted as a seminar/discussion. We will explore why and how adults engage in educational experiences, discuss vignettes describing adult learning experiences, discover resources for continuing learning, and strategies for planning meaningful lifelong learning activities. Join us this summer for what will prove to be a fun, refreshing, meaningful, and engaging learning experience.

Summer 2005

Quality of life + Computers +Technology—What’s the impact on us?

This course will be conducted as a discussion by the participants about the experiences, events, entertainment, research, findings, etc. in the context of the impact on quality of life that computers and technology have/will have. A multi-perspective and a multidisciplinary approach will be used to examine both the popular as well as the ‘scientific’ literature related to quality of life as a basis for discussion.

If you have used a computer before, and it has had some impact on YOUR quality of life, come join us to make this discussion livelier on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 ‘till 11:00 starting on July 12 until August 16, 2005.
