Week 2—January 28, 2009 Further exploration and features of the Internet Browser Program. (Internet Explorer [IE]) will be used as the teaching example. "Plug-ins"; Toolbars; cache; 'cookies'; maintenance, etc. G-mail techniques will be integrated throughout. Techniques for forwarding G-mail to your current e-mail [non-g-mail] account. Week 3—February 4, 2009 At the beginning of this session, we will answer questions, and finish the review of self-assessment skills. STRETCH BREAK AT 2:10 PM for "5" Starting the second half of this session, we will focus more on actual searching techniques, search terms, Boolean operators, synonyms. Week 4—February 11, 2009 Keyboard shortcuts, forwarding mail, adding a Shortcut icon to your desktop, Wikipedia's Keyboard Shortcuts ...and 'wrap your head around' the TERMS [KEYWORDS] that best describe what you are REALLY looking for when you are searching. Compare and contrast an Index, a Directory, and a Search Engine. STRETCH BREAK AT 2:10 PM for "5" Introduction to joining the above search terms using Boolean Logic, "+" and "-", and how to broaden and narrow your search.
Week 5—February 18, 2009 This session will be filled with a 'potpourri' of review, integration, further exploration of all the work covered in the first 4 weeks. We will use the skills learned to actually SEARCH your topics/ keywords /search terms, in Engines, Directories. STRETCH BREAK AT 2:10 PM for "5-ish" We'll use GALILEO as an exemplar/template, as well as WebMD, Medline, Google, Google Directory, Google Scholar. Google search for "Internet tutorial" might be enlightening!? "Favorites", "Bookmarks", and their 'management, organization, and retrieval' will be discussed. How to RE-find what you already FOUND?
